Why perform a user test?

A qualitative approach to understanding the user

Each brand and each project is specific by nature, and for an effective strategy, a strong, user-centric system is required. To do this, we conduct user tests with our clients on their existing sites, in order to identify the friction points in their navigation path.

These tests are multiple and depend on the objectives we set ourselves. Are we going to recruit existing customers familiar with the brand? Or non-customer users who will be asked to benchmark competitors and then navigate the interface to be tested?

Kaliop’s method

Our 6-step methodology, to be built with our clients

  1. Exchanges around the brand’s target profiles
  2. Development of hypotheses to be tested and navigation scenarios
  3. Recruitment of testers and validation by our customer of the profiles.
  4. Conduct of remote tests on desktop, tablet or mobile devices, according to the agreed distribution.
  5. Collecting and viewing the tests on video
  6. Return and UX recommendations to our customers

Kusmi Tea Case Study

#UserResearch #Insights

In particular, we accompanied the Kusmi Tea brand with an ergonomic audit of the https://www.kusmitea.com website via 5 tests on different remote users.

Here is an example of a recruited tester:

Alexandra, 40 years old, browses mostly on mobile phones…

  • Only consumes tea
  • Regular consumer of: Lipton/Kusmi tea
  • Occasional consumer of: Damman, Mariages Frères, Palais des thés

We asked Alexandra to find a precise reference on the existing site: the 80-gram “ROOIBOS VERBENA-MINT” product.

During the test, the client easily found the reference, but it was almost impossible to find the right volume. The function does exist on the product listings, but it is very difficult to understand in mobile navigation.

Testimony of our Kusmi Tea customer:

“With Kaliop, we have set up a series of user tests to check the clarity of the navigation, having several brands cohabitating within our product offer.

We were surprised by some points about our ergonomics: the selection of the tea volume was not obvious, and the majority of the testers had difficulty in choosing the right capacity.

These tests allowed us to review the criticality of the evolution roadmap and to prioritise these points.”
